If you’re an ambitious and experienced Front-end Javascript Developer who thrives on working with the best to create success for big name clients, this could be your next challenge.

9xb is an eCommerce specialist that exists to challenge the way online experiences are delivered, offering technical, practical and creative solutions that overcome barriers to growth. We design award winning eCommerce websites/marketing campaigns for some fantastic clients, including bathstore, EuroCarParts, Hi-Tec, The Post Office, and many more.

9xb is in the process of redeveloping its front-end framework, moving to a headless back-end platform.  This process will conclude when the majority of active clients are migrated from a combined back-end and front-end codebase to separate codebases and applications.  What has been Twig templates embedded in a PHP/Symfony set-up is becoming independent React Javascript applications.  With support from the rest of the front-end team, you will be able to prove your front-end competency across the existing projects and also able to transition to the modern architecture.

With a wealth of experience and skills across the business already, and having many clients with different requirements, this challenging and fast-paced role will provide plenty of opportunity for growth whilst working on exciting and varied projects. We’re results driven, but aware that results are only sustained through being friendly, approachable and supportive of each other.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing fast, responsive client-side web applications that adhere to best practices
  • Closely adhering to, but bringing to life, distinctive designs consistently and rapidly
  • Working closely with all departments across projects and in an agile workflow
  • Contributing ideas and input to a tight-knit, advancing front-end department, including recommendations on new, proven technologies

To be successful you'll need:

  • 3+ years' experience working on modern front-end projects
  • An awareness, and ideally experience, of React, Vue.js or similar Javascript frameworks
  • ...and the ability to write and maintain raw Javascript (ES6) code
  • (Naturally) a strong historic knowledge of HTML, CSS and JS (including JQuery) as well as knowledge of SASS, BEM, etc
  • Plenty of experience with front-end build tools, especially Webpack
  • Lots of VCS experience (ideally Git)
  • Ability to write clean semantic markup and to follow accessibility best practices
  • Good understanding of browser differences, strong responsive and mobile knowledge, ability to deliver consistent experiences across devices
  • A good understanding of the agile workflow
  • A great set of soft skills:
Desire, passion, drive, willingness, time-management, team player, patience, commercial awareness, pride

Plus ideally you'll have:

  • Experience integrating with headless back-ends / APIs
  • Some unit testing experience
  • To be familiar with JIRA software
  • A little exposure to PHP (and the LAMP stack)
  • Templating engines such as Twig
  • Exposure to MVC frameworks
  • Awareness of AWS/cloud architecture
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Delivered high volume web applications regularly
