Web Developer (Shopify)

We're looking for a hands-on Web Developer to join our eCommerce support team.

Reporting to: Head of UX
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week / Flexitime. Core hours 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Hybrid working environment. Remote/City Centre Office
Salary: £22-27k

We're looking for a hands-on Web Developer to join our eCommerce support team. From new website builds through to performance optimisation, you will use your initiative and skills to deliver an exceptional online experience for both our clients and their customers.

Working alongside our eCommerce Consultants and designers, you will maintain the highest levels of quality and productivity, whilst working across multiple projects in a fast paced and fun environment.You’ll be used to overcoming challenges and finding creative solutions to ensure we continue to deliver excellent service to our clients and will always strive to deliver the best.

As an adaptable and approachable individual, you will constantly be learning new skills and technologies and willing to go the extra mile to help ensure our team delivers projects on time and to budget. Each day will bring something new, and you can expect to work across multiple tools and platforms on a range of challenging and stimulating projects.

Build and optimise ‘off-the-shelf platform’ websites

  • Develop new public facing web stores that perform well on all devices
  • Setup new off-the-shelf platform sites including domain, shipping, inventory, payment gateways
  • Apply and customise website themes in line with approved designs and/or style guide
  • Setup site structure, categories and navigation in line with agreed Information Architecture (IA)
  • Install, setup, test and optimise tracking code, 3rd party apps, analytics and sales channels
  • Set up, test and optimise email automations and forms
  • Migrate content and data from existing websites inline with best practice
  • Play proactive role in the pre and post-launch plan for new websites
  • Oversee or implement website integrations with third party systems

Maintain proficiency in the operation of clients’ website platforms

  • Carry out and test UX improvements, frontend updates and performance optimisation
  • Publish, update and check site content and product data as requested
  • Monitor and improve site speed and performance
  • Support in the merchandising of clients’ webstores
  • Install, setup, test, debug and maintain a working knowledge of tracking tags and 3rd party apps
  • Work with the UX team to produce and vet ideas though prototyping early concepts
  • Use data to identify and solve UX and performance problems

Commercial awareness

  • Ensure all work is delivered in line with client and business objectives
  • Ensure high client satisfaction by consistently delivering quality work, on time and to budget
  • Proactively communicate issues, challenges and blockers early to manage expectations
  • Find innovative and efficient solutions to new challenges
  • Effective time management and prioritisation

  • Experience designing and developing Shopify stores including themes, Liquid and apps
  • Operational knowledge of the Shopify platform/CMS
  • Working knowledge of common web technologies including HTML5/CSS/JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
  • Good understanding of SEO and the knowledge to implement improvements
  • Solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and code solutions
  • Good understanding of Design and UX
  • Experienced in populating and merchandising eCommerce websites
  • Experience with other popular eCommerce platforms may be an advantage
