Responsibilities

1. Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable and high-quality web applications

  • Translate project specifications and tickets into clean, secure, test-driven, easily maintainable code
  • Adhere closely to project plans and deliver work that meets functional & non-functional requirements
  • Create new, innovative, secure and scalable features for our clients’ web applications
  • Troubleshoot, debug and optimise applications
  • Anticipate and adapt to changes in project specifications and/or schedules during development
  • Ensure all work is delivered to a high standard, quality, and best practice
  • Work with QA team to implement appropriate testing and mitigate regression
  • Clearly document your work to provide an effective future resource

2. Provide backend development resource to the wider business

  • Support our existing applications and technologies ensuring they remain fit for purpose
  • Collaborate and work with other departments/teams on the backend needs of projects
  • Be able to translate complex technical terms into layman's terms for less technical stakeholders
  • Support existing projects and features across multiple platforms, software stacks and generations
  • Maintain a close working relationship with project stakeholders
  • Find innovative and efficient solutions to new challenges

3. Commercial awareness

  • Maintain good levels of performance and productivity
  • Ensure all work is delivered in line with client and business objectives
  • Ensure high client satisfaction by consistently delivering high-quality work, on time and to budget
  • Provide accurate estimates by ensuring you have a complete understanding of project requirements
  • Proactively communicate issues, challenges and blockers early to manage stakeholder expectations
  • Build reusable code and libraries to improve efficiency and maintainability

4. Continued professional development 

  • Consistently demonstrate reliability, professionalism and a positive attitude
  • Seek regular advice and validation from senior team members and your line manager
  • Ensure individual efforts continue to be aligned with 9xb’s core business objectives
  • Maintain proficiency in industry-standard tools, software and applications

  • Keep up to date with the latest eCommerce best practice principles
  • Adhere to workplace policies and procedures to maintain efficiency & professionalism

Job Requirements

Essential skills:

  • At least 3 years experience working in backend web development
  • Good understanding and experience of a PHP MVC - preferably Symfony framework
  • Use of ORMs such as Doctrine (and ideally SQL knowledge)
  • Working regularly with APIs and Web Services (REST, SOAP, etc)
  • Unit Testing 
  • Good communication skills

Desirable skills:

  • Working knowledge of eCommerce platforms
  • Working knowledge of payment gateways
  • API platform experience / Building restful API’s
  • Experience / Awareness of AWS/Cloud architecture
  • The use of Docker / Composer
  • Good understanding of design principles (SOLID, DRY, etc) and design patterns
  • The use of TDD (Test Driven Development) practice or other testing practice
  • Experience working within an Agile environment 
  • Agile Scrum project management with Jira
