For this year’s Christmas party, the 9xb team headed over to Tockwith Motor Sports Centre for a day of car related fun. Conditions looked ominous after the previous weeks of record minus temperatures and heavy snow, but luckily the weather stayed clear, if not a tad cold. (A far cry from last year’s party!)
The team’s motoring ability was put to the test in three areas: HGV lorry driving, skid pan driving and auto-tests (blindfolded driving and inversed steering go-karting).
The task the 9xb staff were both dreading and looking forward to most was the truck driving. All the team managed to negotiate the course in the lorry (complete with load), despite a few choice words from the instructor!
Perhaps, a special mention should be made for Simon, who broke the gear box on the Ford Fiesta used for the blindfolded auto-test, thus rendering the task redundant for the rest of the day. (Although, he maintains to this day that his navigator Carly should bear the brunt of the responsibility.)
The day was a resounding success for the 9xb girls, who cleaned up, taking three of the four awards on offer and putting pay to the stereotype that men are better drivers.
Congratulations to Amy who picked up the overall award, while Carly and Emma took the awards for the HGV and skid pan driving respectively. Rob B did manage to regain some pride for the boys by picking up the award for the auto-test driving.
After a short break, we then made our way over to Leeds for a curry at Akbar’s on Greek Street. Those left standing rounded off the evening with a couple of bars and some karaoke, before making a treacherous journey home through the heavy snow that had begun to fall.
So another year and another fantastic 9xb Christmas party, now perhaps the only digital agency with truck driving experience!
