Those 2009 Christmas parties might seem like a long time ago, but here at 9xb, we still remember ours very clearly. After a year of working flat out we've earned a bit of fun, so off we went to the multi activity centre Camp Hill. Of course, what we hadn’t planned for was the 6 inches snow that arrived that morning.
Layered up with thermal clothing and doing our very best to do the Michelin man justice with our multiple layers, we headed off to Camp Hill for a very exciting activity day. Quad biking and pigeon shooting were the main events on the agenda and luckily the snow hadn’t prevented them from taking place. Freezing cold and huddled round, we were briefed on safety measures and were then split into teams. We took it in turns to do both quad biking and clay pigeon shooting, although the fairness and equality in this has to be questioned, as there were some rather ‘jammy’ individuals that got to use the quad bikes more than others!
Quad bikes – a first time for many (and the last for some), the quad bikes were extremely entertaining. From driving into trees that were clearly big enough to see, to doing complete 360s and turning the bikes upside down, there are some memorable moments that we will all remember.
Clay Pigeon Shooting – a friendly farmer instructed us on how best to hold a gun and we had to shoot little grey discs. Deafening, but really good fun, some of us are now shooting pros (sort of).
After a good few hours of feeling cold, and feeling colder after the bitter, icy air nearly made our fingers drop off, the activity day came to an end and we made our way back through the snow to Harrogate and prepared for our Christmas party in the evening. Dinner at the local Japanese restaurant was fabulous, and we’re pretty sure everyone had a great time. Not even the snow could ruin it!
Christmas 2010; how can we top last year’s?!
