With revenues of more than $39billion and over 185,000 employees, PepsiCo is a truly global brand. The world leader in convenience snacks, foods and beverages PepsiCo boasts a product portfolio in the UK that includes Pepsi Cola, Walkers Crisps, Tropicana and Quaker Oats.
Understanding the importance of employee welfare, PepsiCo invested in a Nutritional Training Programme to help educate staff on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. With a wide range of users spread across the UK, the internet is the perfect platform to deliver this programme.
Following a recommendation from an existing client, 9xb were introduced to PepsiCo and subsequently commissioned to create an interactive online training resource. This portal needed to educate and train PepsiCo's staff in an interesting and engaging way. Packed with innovative features the brief was to ensure the portal was easy to use whilst utilising the latest online technologies to get its message across.
Users would need to be able to exit and re-enter the programme at any point, saving their progress along the way and allowing them to complete it at their leisure. Furthermore, the programme was to be separated into modules with a quiz at the end of each stage to evaluate what the user had learnt. Several different types of media were to be integrated such as video, interactive games, animation and lifestyle assessments to highlight the various aspects of the training programme.
High level reporting would be a key part of the project; to monitor usage, trends and the success of the initiative whilst protecting personal information that may be entered by users.
The challenge here was to create a design that looked professional but was also fun, not too corporate and inviting to users. Using a strong background image as the focal point, we merged a mix of illustrations, applications and video with our own creative. The result - an easy to use portal that promotes PepsiCo's brand values and aspirational lifestyle to its users, creating enthusiasm and and keeping users clicking their way through the programme.
The system is powered by a MySQL database to track user preferences and progress as they work through the programme.
This project was such a hit that once it was completed we were commissioned to develop foreign languages versions for two of PepsiCo's leading European territories.
