Project 10 to the 100th

26th September 2008

Google are holding an open competition called Project 10 to the 100th that aims to "change the world by helping as many people as possible". The prize for winning? If you have to ask you probably shouldn’t enter.

Google have pledged to invest $10million in the top five ideas - ideas that help the most people, in the most far-reaching way and can be implemented in just a few years.

The Big G have a lot of fingers in a lot of pies, so why should we think this is anything other than someone’s pet project or another way to influence people? After all, Google’s motto of ’do no evil’ has come under fire quite a lot down the years as they’ve come dominate pretty much the entire internet. Not content with that, are they trying to take over real life too?

Well, maybe. They’re a global company and if they wanted to I’m sure they could dominate our offline activity too. Remember the Master Plan? To be honest, I don’t think all that really matters. The fact is that Google have put up $10million for good causes and the way they’re going about it could potentially lead to innovative, important changes to a lot of people’s lives. Google have spouted ’do no evil’ for long enough and now they’re saying ’let’s do some good’.
