Google Wave: What It Is And Why Its Important

There’s always lots of things exciting us in our day-to-day office life at 9xb…from seeing a project make its way to completion, to simply enjoying a nice mug of tea, but here’s one thing that has got us all hot under the collar for a different reason.

Google Wave is coming and we’re positively brimming with excitement about it.

So what exactly is Google Wave? Well, its lots of things all rolled into one. It will allow users to socialise and communicate on a number of different levels. This web-based service is also a computing platform and communications protocol that merges some of the most popular apps of today’s modern web 2.0 generation. Think emails, instant messaging, social networking etc.

It is being marketed as the “next generation” of Internet communication. The wave itself is shared so people can work together and communicate in real-time. This has the potential to open up a world of possibilities in the online world, and our developers are looking forward to its forthcoming launch. People are already anticipating the idea of such technological delights as a Wave-powered forum and a Wave-based Content Management System.

For our developers at 9xb, the concept of Google Wave is interesting, not least because these ‘waves’ will be able to be integrated into a website. Another benefit is the open protocol which is going to allow anyone to build their own Wave system. We also like the idea of this being a genuinely fun way to do work!

You’ve got to hand it to Google; although the Wave hasn’t been launched yet, the media hype and speculation surrounding the product has generated more interest than many other products of recent times combined. So, will it work? We hope so, and we certainly don’t think Google will let us down…
