9xb have just started offering a fancy new email marketing suite to our customers. This nifty application lets you create, manage and send your email shots, and subscribers get bespoke email templates designed by our resident creatives. It's a fantastic way to keep in touch with existing customers and it's really easy to use!

When should you start sending out emails? Well, every time someone completes an action on your website is a good start. I've lost count of the times I've signed up to a mailing list and not heard anything for weeks - when someone gives you their email address, send them a thank you email! It lets them know you've noticed and you care.

Confirmation emails throughout the buying process are even more important. Customers should receieve an invoice, order summary and dispatch confirmation so they know exactly what's going on with their purchase. It shows you have processes in place and gives the customer a reason to trust you as a retailer.

Finally, there's your real email marketing. Some companies like ASOS.com seem send out promotional emails every few days but a good general rule is not to annoy your subscribers! Depending on your product turnover you could send out emails every week, every month or just a few times a year - basically whenever you have something interesting to say.

It's a great way to keep your company at the forefront of people's minds and it can be highly targeted too. Our new email suite for example lets you select customers based on past purchases so you can offer something they're already interested in - increasing the chance of future sales.

Today's Moral

How to Reindex Your Website Quickly in a Search Engine
"Hi Cyndi You're going to find the same thing that a lot of people find when chasing rankings. Firstly, the hand-crafted jewellery market is very competitive because a lot of people are using the internet as their primary route to market - compared to selling at markets and craft fairs there's a potentially massive audience. That gives Google a big headache, because there are a million sites out there competing for its attention. Secondly, much of what determines their rankings comes from the history of the domain. If you've been going a long time, it says to Google that the business is well-established and therefore probably has a decent offering. Any brand new domain is going to struggle to get anywhere near the top of the rankings in the short term unfortunately. It's encouraging that Google is at least spidering and indexing your site, but you will have to do a *lot* of work in terms of content and link building to see returns in terms of rankings."

"I love reading al the information you have published for SEO. but....I have a question. I just started a handcrafted jewelry site www.cynfullyunique.com How do I know if it's being indexed. It appears, when I check my pages visited and people visisted that google bot has a lot of viists. I try to up-date it with new jewelry every two days. And is it good and what does it mean that google is visiting my pages often. My site is relatively new....2 months and I really need to get it ranked so I can sell some of my jewelry, etc."
